<p>Spring semester starts with a BANG as the performance company Paralellexit grace the Voorhees theatre with their slap stick comedy and fast paced action<strong>.</strong> Inspired by the films <em>City Lights </em>and <em>An American In Paris, </em>NYC’s Drama Desk-nominated Parallel Exit premieres an evening-length comic ballet following the story of two desperately lonely characters attempting to connect within the speed and chaos of 21st century New York.  Created by director Mark Lonergan, choreographer Ray Hesselink, and composer Wayne Barker, featuring a live original score.</p>

<p><strong>Zora Returns</strong></p>
<p>The second production is the one women show<strong> </strong><strong><em>Zora Returns</em><em>,</em></strong> capturing the life and times of the legendary Zora Neale Hurston; written by Laurence Holder; performed by Antonia Badon. The scene opens with a young woman resembling a child who hasn’t quite overcome adolescence, but who develops a keen interest to attain an education in lieu of the racial disparities that plagued African Americans. Witness the past, the present, and the future of a writer who helped transform Harlem’s economic structure with the launching of the first black literary work “Fire.”</p>

Hudes_042" src="http://theatreworkscitytech.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Quiara-A.-Hudes_0423-235x300.jpg" alt="" width="235" height="300" /></a>Quiara Alegría Hudes is the Tony-nominated and Pulitzer-nominated book writer of Broadway’s In the Heights. In 2008 In the Heights received four Tony Awards including Best Musical. Off-Broadway, In the Heights won the Lucille Lortel Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. Quiara is also the Pulitzer-nominated playwright of Elliot, A Soldier’s Fugue, a drama that has been produced around the country and published in numerous anthologies. Her other plays include Water By the Spoonful, which will premiere at Hartford Stage this fall; The Happiest Song Plays Last, which premieres at the Goodman Theatre in 12-13; 26 Miles; and Yemaya’s Belly, her first play which earned her numerous awards including the Clauder Prize and the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Paula Vogel Award in Playwriting. Her children’s musical Barrio Grrrl!opened at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and has toured the country, and her children’s book <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Welcome To My Neighborhood!</span> is published by Scholastic, Inc.</p>
<p>Quiara’s plays have been produced at home and on stages around the world, including Puerto Rico’s Centro de Bellas Artes, Tokyo’s International Forum, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and Hollywood’s Pantages Theater. Her work is published by Dramatists Play Service, Scholastic Inc., American Theater Magazine, and in numerous anthologies.</p>
<p>Quiara recently received a United States Artists Fontanals Fellowship as well as a Resolution from the City of Philadelphia honoring the writing she has done about her hometown. She is a resident playwright at New Dramatists in New York. Previously she was a Joyce Fellow at the Goodman Theatre, the Aetna New Voices Fellow at Hartford Stage, a two-time fellow at the Sundance Theater Institute, and a resident playwright at the O’Neill Theater Center.</p>
<p>Quiara is on the board of Philadelphia Young Playwrights, which produced her first play in the tenth grade. She lives in New York with her husband and daughter.</p>
